Cairo & Alexandria (2 Days)

About this tour

A full two-day history trip: the Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza in Cairo, followed by a day in Alexandria.

Day 1: Cairo

• The Great Sphinx, a mythical figure with a human head and a lion's body, carved from a single block of limestone
• Pyramids of Giza: the three great pyramids of Cheops, Khafre and Menkaure, plus smaller satellite pyramids built as tombs for members of the royal family
• Egyptian Museum in Cairo, including the hall of Tutankhamun's treasures
• Nile boat ride (optional, extra charge)
• Buffet lunch
• Papyrus Institute
• Transfer to the hotel, free time and dinner

Day 2: Alexandria

• Departure from Cairo at 7 a.m., packed breakfast
• Montaza Palace gardens, the summer residence of Egypt's last king, Farouk, set among palm trees
• Roman Amphitheater, found by chance in 1959 during building work: about 800 seats in 12 rows of marble
• Citadel of Qaitbay, home to a naval museum
• Library of Alexandria, with space for 8 million books, a manuscript restoration lab, a planetarium, three museums and four art galleries
• Dinner

Important information

• An Egyptian visa is required if your passport has only a Sinai stamp. The visa is issued right before the excursion, so you leave the hotel 1 hour earlier. Visa $25 plus $5 transport, $30 in total.
• To arrange the tourist police travel permit, please send photos of the passports of everyone traveling.
